Aaron Thomas Hinds

Artist, Founder of Tyler Fine Art Gallery

I am Aaron Thomas Hinds, a lifelong artist from Tyler, Texas. From my earliest memories I've been drawn to art, with a passion that has never wavered. I studied landscape architecture in college, but a study abroad program at the Santa Chiara Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy, made me certain I wanted to be a professional artist, especially in oil painting, which I learned from Italian master Paolo Barucchieri.

Chapter one

New York

After my studies I moved to Manhattan to pursue art. Fate led me to the New York Mercantile Exchange, where I was present during the events of September 11th and narrowly escaped. Afterward I painted a tribute to the heroes of that day, "Ode to Heroes," which now resides in the Museum of the City of New York.

Chapter two

Home to Tyler, 2014

After more than a decade in New York, I came home to Tyler in 2014. Since then my focus has been the life of Jesus Christ seen through a contemporary lens, in a collection of paintings titled "The Life That Changed The World."

"Jesus changed the world in only three years, without an army or a famous family name. I am honored to have a hand in creating contemporary depictions of the miraculous birth, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus the Christ."

Chapter three

The gallery

Finding gallery space in East Texas was hard, so I opened my own: the Hinds Fine Art Gallery & Event Space in the old Sears building on South Broadway. That gallery grew into something bigger. Today I'm the founder and curator of Tyler Fine Art Gallery, an artist collective on the downtown square at 119 W Ferguson St, where some of the region's most accomplished artists show their work side by side.

Through this journey I've been deeply touched by the people of Tyler, who have welcomed the gallery as a home for art and community. I'm proud to be part of Tyler's cultural growth, and I hope you'll come see the work in person.
